Continual exposure to toxins adds fuel to the fire of chronic disease

When your body and in particular your gut microbiome, is exposed to toxins, this can lead to chronic (long term) health conditions and disease.  This is called Sequela.

Sequela – a chronic (long term) condition which follows on from an acute (short term intense) condition

More and more research studies are connecting intestinal infections with long term disorders (sequela).

When we think of gut disorders we often just think of IBS or reflux, however, the disorders that are being connected to the intestinal infections include chronic fatigue, depression, autoimmune conditions such as arthritis and thyroid disorders. Also the IBS didn’t begin on it’s own there had to be something that triggered it (bad bacteria, parasite, chemicals, yeast?). Majority of my patients find relief from IBS symptoms fairly quickly.

As a Naturopath I am always looking for the root cause.  Where did it all begin? and is it still adding fuel to the fire?

I ask questions like, have you travelled overseas? (not lately of course), what type of work do you do?, do you drink tank water?, does your work expose you to chemicals Etc etc.

When I am explaining the process to my patients, this is the way I explain the continued exposure to the root cause and why it needs to be removed:

Think of your symptoms (IBS, fatigue, fatty liver, thyroid health, rash etc) like a camp fire,

you can be doing everything possible to put the fire out (eating right, exercising, sunlight, getting enough sleep and relaxation)

BUT if the root cause is still there (toxic overload or past infections, including viruses such as Epstein Barr Virus) then these are the new logs that keep getting put on the fire to keep the symptoms going.

We need to keep up the firefighter (eating healthy, exercise, sunlight, sleep and mindfulness) and reduce the toxic overload, (lumber jack adding logs to the fire) THIS IS WHERE I COME IN, and stop creating more symptoms by adding fuel to the fire that the lumberjack is stoking.

Some common root causes are: toxic overload from toxins in food (colours, flavours, additives plus more) and the environment (chemicals in make up, car fumes, paints plus more), viruses (glandular fever), bacteria, moulds and fungus as well as long term chronic stress, trauma, and nutrient deficiencies.

When we can establish where the root cause is coming from, then we can focus a treatment plan in this area (stop adding fuel to the fire) while simultaneously working on reducing further exposure (putting out the fire) and then remove any toxins hanging around in the body waiting to come out and play (removing the logs).

This all sounds a bit too much I hear you say.

Then ask yourself, are you happy to continue living with the symptoms that you feel each and every day?

If the answer is no then would you like to make some changes to some of these areas?

  • making better food choices,
  • increase exercise,
  • more sunlight exposure,
  • improve sleep,
  • decrease stress and
  • increase mindfulness?

All of these areas are the first step in the right direction and I am here to help.

Who am I?

I am a Bachelor qualified Naturopath who specialises in improving metabolic processes in the body. Major areas for improvement include gut, thyroid, kidney, skin and liver health. Conditions such as hypothyroidism, fatty liver, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, type II diabetes, & irritable bowel conditions. I help my patients by giving them symptomatic relief while working on repairing the underlying causes of metabolic stress and waste accumulation. Patients experience amazing results which are seen in their blood tests with improved thyroid markers, cholesterol, and liver markers.  As well as lower blood pressure and see relief from improved gastrointestinal symptoms like the ones that mean you need to know where every single toilet is before you leave the house.
